This deck was inspired by the most wonderful place in the world; and indeed the name is a pun on that place.
However, unlike the fine folk at Apenheul, this deck is all about throwing apes at others; be that other players, or their creatures and/or planeswalkers. And it is on the back of that incredibly weak premise, this deck was built! Basically an excuse to bring a bunch of apes and monkeys together into a deck, and see what mischief they could get up to.
I didn't want this to be purely a tribal ape/monkey deck, so the Commander - whilst featuring a monkey - was more about the mischief than the tribal nature of apes and monkeys. Rashmi and Ragavan give me a free spell almost every turn (when they're on the battlefield), and the variety of Primates gives me options in what other mischief I can get up to.
The methods for Hurling Primates are pretty primitive, as is the excuse to make Flying Monkeys (IE it's a trope; so why not!). And the section titled Monkeying Around is intentionally devoted to cards with ape/monkey artwork on them.
Recognising the role of Treasure and my Commander's free spell; both Commander Trigger Enhancement and Treasure Enhancement support those features of the deck; and - as is often the case of my builds - Graveyard Recover does what it says, and finally Utilities offers me some secondary abilities.
The land base is pretty self-explanatory; a selection of Artifact Lands to enhance my Commander's ability; several Lands featuring ape/monkey artwork, and a handful of others that just seemed to fit the vibes.
